Core tenet of cultural sensitivity in memory work is that it cannot be done alone.
Finding key people and partners in whom you can confide plays an extremely important role. Collaboration may stop and trust that was once built may break down if you do not have those key people.

A guide to raise awareness amongst health and social care workers
This guide draws on the experience and know-how of a group of experts and builds on two other reports1 by people with knowledge and direct experience of providing dementia care to people from many different ethnic communities. Members of the working group identified with a range of different ethnic groups and had different geographical origins and
religions. The European Working Group of People with Dementia provided contacts, shared their experience and commented on the various drafts. The guide has been developed thanks to continued funding from the Robert Bosch Stiftung.
1The development of intercultural care and support for people with dementia from minority ethnic groups’, which was published by Alzheimer Europe in 2018 with funding from the European Union and the Robert Bosch Stiftung, and a shorter version inspired by this report, which was published by the Nordic Welfare Centers theme network for dementia and ethnic minorities.

The provision of intercultural care and support requires cultural awareness, sensitivity and competence. This is not something that can be learnt solely from a book. It is an ongoing process of learning and exchange. No one is expected to understand the traditions, values and beliefs of people from other cultures straight away.

Reflections on How Are We Doing?
In the last week of May, a group of ENIEC members met in a webinar to discuss how are older migrants coping during this Covid-19 pandemic. The webinar was organized by ENIEC members in Finland, the same group who were to organize the annual meeting of our network in Tallinn last March.
..We compiled the content of the webinar from a survey conducted by five organizations in April-May. in Finland. Our goal was to gather the information that our group instructors heard during telephone conversations with the elderly participants. We were particularly interested in how and where people get information about the exception period, how they understand it, and how they got along with the situation. The phone calls often took a long time, as the elderly had a need to talk, being isolated from the rest of the world…
